Water project #6

Now we are on week 4 and we are starting to work on our poster I will post the progress or the pages we will have to print out to put on it.
Week 1
When Mr Emerson brought up the topic of the Water Project, everyone was excited and we thought that he was bonkers when he gave everyone a sheet of paper in which we have to fill out our interest, skills and talents. We were all in a table group, Ella, Tori and Kyra, so when we started talking about it, we found out that we are all very similar! All of us love reading, and exploring. That we love animals, crafts, nature and that we aren’t afraid of public speaking and we don/t mind getting dirty. We can play sports well, cook, bake, do gardening, paint and explore places. We figured that we all have very similar talents and that we like all the same things. We started

Water Project (Tori Duckworth, Ella Hoyt and Me)

Week 1

30 March, Wednesday:

We didn't do much, we just started thinking about what we want to do and came up with some ideas. That was Treasure hunt, Fair, Scavenger hunt or just showing awareness about the water crisis.

1 April, Friday:

We filled the calendar and talked to Mr Emerson about working together. We have decided to organize a treasure hunt for 3rd graders. We have everything to start. I am in charge of the slides and presentation, Ella is going to ask the 3rd grade teacher and is going to be our 'tester'. Tori is in charge of finding where to hide the clues and all of us are going to make the clues. We have planned out what we need to do to get there.

2, 3,4 and 5 April, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday:

We talked about how to convince the teacher and started working on the presentation. But on 6th April, Wednesday, Ella was supposed to got to the 3rd grade teacher and convince her, but we didn't have anything, so that backfired and we are now going to do it on Friday, 8th April.

7 April, Thursday:

We added more detail to our planning sheet and we are starting to make the plans for the week. During the rest of the day, we finished it and did more work on the slides.

We plan on making the note cards on Friday, during lunch.

Week 1:
This week, we had 1 class to get organized. We got into groups of 2, you could work in 3 or 4 if you had the teachers permission. I got into a group with Tori and Kyra. We started interviewing each other for ideas of what we could do for the water project. The water project is all about the water crisis. You and your group members have to make a change in some way, whether it's raising awareness, or money to give to water charities.
We also got a packet that has all the information on the water project. It also has a planner inside that we have to fill out and get signed by our parents. We didn't get to that today because we were still trying to come up with ideas. We had a whole bunch of them.
At first, we were thinking we could do a small fair with mimi games and food and a bunch of fun stuff, but we thought that that would be too hard. We then thought of a race of water where you would have to fill up a bucket of water and walk/run a certain distance as fast as you can. But then we realized that that defeated the purpose of what we were trying to raise awarness for because it wasted water. Then, we thought of a treasure hunt. We are going to make the treasure hunt available to all middle schoolers and they have to pay about $2.00. There are going to be prizes at the end, and a donation stand asking for tips to give to a water crisis foundation.
We are really excited about the idea because we love adventures and we already have a ton of ideas on how to make it really fun. For example, we are going to set up clues at water related places so that it doesn't just tell you where to go next. We also want to put a fact about the water crisis on the bottom of each clue to raise even more awareness.

Week 3
At the beginning at Week 3 we had some trouble getting to get our presentation to Mr.Emerson's standards. So we had one more chance and Me,Kyra, and Ella worked on it hard over night. Also on that same day we had went to see Mrs.Van Gasse but sadly she wasn’t their. In the morning on Wednesday, the 20th of April, Ella went to school early to show him and we got the ok. And we also emailed the teacher. Kyra’s blog post: In the night I realised that we can't do it on the 27th because we have to present what we did on 26th, so I sent them an email about it. Hopefully, nothing is too big and we can get this all sorted out. But it wasn’t to big because the teacher sent us an email back saying we could do it TODAY!

The Email Tori sent to Ms Nicole Van Gasse

We were totally freaking out. We had to get our clues printed and we have to get there too. We have to place the clues and ask her whether the children can go out so we can hide them. We were literally going through a PANIC SHOCK.

In science class, Mr Emerson gave us some free time and we discussed what to do. We decided that the we will print the clues/riddles on an A4 sheet of paper and that they will just write the answers down on the piece of paper, next to the answer. Then we went to the library to print our clues and guess what! It didn't work when Ella tried it. Then Tori ran back to her locker to get her card so we can try it with that and it still didn't work. Then we figured out it was on the wrong on the wrong printer mode. During that time we totally forgot about recording everything with photos and Tori forced Kyra to run back and get her phone from her locker. And finally as Ella and Kyra were working a bit on the presentation. Tori finally got it to work!

So here’s how it went: We rushed out of the library door and we literally ran through the cafeteria to get to the Elementary School. When we reached there, we realised that we were like 10 minutes early and I am so happy we were. We tried to practice our slides and how we will present every thing, but it didn't go well. I kept trying to stop them so that I can take notes (this is outside, when we are revising and practicing). Then they got up and started walking to the door and I was sitting there taking notes. The got impatient and raised their voices while I tried to stuff my things into the bag. Then I realised that I forgot my notes too and I took another minute getting that out. When we finally got into the room, I was awed by the number of kids there. Like about 27, 30 kids were in there staring at us. Tori hustled and connected her computer to the air-play and we started. The kids listened well and we may have stuttered a bit, or a lot... But, I hope they didn't catch us in the action because they were all just watching us and they were all paying good attention. When we got to the treasure-hunt, they were grouped by their table groups and they all occupied themselves in the questions. While they were answering that, me and Ella got busy transferring the answers to the questions from the computer to the extra piece of paper with the clues we had. After that, we went around the huge classroom, seeing what the kids were doing. We reminded some of the groups to write their names down too. When the wrote the answers, we told them the correct ones and they were all surprised at the answers. One of the kids at the end asked whether we wrote them and we said yes and replied, "Yes, That's why they are so bad!". And we all laughed. After that we said goodbye and they said goodbye too. The teacher smiled and said loudly, "Now, you guys have GRAMMAR!". And all the kids just shouted out, "Noooooooooo!!!", but we had to go and so we said bye again and we left. Outside, we really ran back to Mr Emerson's class, through the library and across the lockers. On our way back we don't remember what we said be we were all laughing and getting all of the nervousness or anxiousness out of us. I think it was about grammar, that if they didn't like 4th grade grammar, they would hate grade 6 grammar! When we got back we talked quietly and quickly so that we can get back to work with our partners, Anushka, asked Tori, "How did it go?" because she had wished us luck before we went and Tori said "Great, they didn't want us to leave!" Anushka laughs and then gets back to work with Tori. Thankfully, Ella is my partner, so we get back to work and do more work on the microscope test we have next week. It was really an awesome experience that I will never forget. I hope I will be able to do this in the future.
